Parade Programs for the State Monthly Post Activities Amvets, Sheerbliss Ice Cream Announce Five Year PartnershipWASHINGTON, May 22, 2008-SheerBliss Ultra Super Premium Ice Cream Company recently renewed its partnership with AMVETS to build awareness of one of the nation's leading veterans' service organizations. The new five-year agreement will allow SheerBliss to prominently display the AMVETS logo on packaging and collateral material nationwide. Since announcing the partnership with AMVETS last July, SheerBliss has prominently displayed the AMVETS logo on its Freedom Ice Cream containers and boxes of its premium ice cream bars. In the future, SheerBliss will expand the use of the AMVETS logo and sponsor reference to additional SheerBliss products, which will result in even greater awareness of AMVETS. "Our veterans have given so much to preserve our way of life, and I think it's our duty to demonstrate our support on the home front by supporting the mission of groups such as AMVETS," said Ron Prupis, managing partner of SheerBliss. "For generations we've seen Americans answer their call to serve, so it is only fitting that SheerBliss give something back to these heroes." SheerBliss remains dedicated to the men and women of the armed forces and all who have served in the U.S. military. This partnership, set to extend until 2012, is small a token of SheerBliss' appreciation to help engage the public to support this nation's veterans' community. As one of the nation's leading veterans' service organizations, AMVETS is a perfect fit for SheerBliss due to its long-standing tradition of "veterans serving veterans." "It's inspiring to see companies such as SheerBliss take a proactive role in providing for our veterans's community," said AMVETS National Commander John P. "JP" Brown III. "As one of our most engaged corporate supporters, I'm happy to see that SheerBliss will be working with AMVETS for years to come." AMVETS represents nearly 250,000 veterans and their family members, with posts in all 50 states. AMVETS National Service Officers provide free counseling to all veterans on their service-related compensation claims with the VA. In 2007 alone, AMVETS service officers successfully secured $324 million in VA benefits for veterans. AMVETS also has a prominent voice on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., lobbying for veterans and veterans' benefits, such as Sen. Jim Webb's proposed changes to the GI Bill, which recently passed the Senate by an overwhelming majority. What's New?!
Nearly 700 dollars collected for Danville Fire Department toy drive. Area veterans turned their attention from the military to the needy this past week as the Donald Shannon Memorial AMVETS Post 123 collected money and toys for Danville Fire Department's annual Christmas Toy Drive. The Post, along with their Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of AMVETS groups, raised nearly $700 that was donated to the fire department to buy presents for needy children in Boyle County. In addition, members and guests brought in new toys and stuffed animals for area children. Post Commander Billy Waters made the presentation to fire fighters on Tuesday following several fundraising events. "This has been an ongoing thing for the last couple of months," said Pearl Waters, head of the auxiliary, and wife of Billy Waters. These activities peaked at a dance this past weekend, headlined by the band Passed Experience, which donated its services. Patrons put money in a large plastic water jug that was filled to the top for the toy drive program. Most donations were in dollar bills with several larger denominations were found among the accumulated funds. The money will be added to the Christmas Toy Drive account and will be used to purchase new toys and presents for families in need. The fire department already has more than 230 children signed up for the program with late sign ups continuing this week. In addition to their efforts assisting area firefighters, AMVETS members also are sending Christmas greetings to wounded soldiers and veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The groups stay active in the community supporting veterans from all branches of the military in addition to their efforts in supporting personnel currently serving at home and abroad this holiday season.
